Hearing Resumes February 9th
The on-going crisis currently engulfing the Nigerian Premier League took a comic twist on Monday at a Federal High Court in Lagos wherein two lawyers paraded themselves as defendants of the league body in the suit filed by Total Promotion Limited, the firm which represented MTN in the bidding for the NPL title rights.
Emmanuel Oboh who had represented the Premier league board in her last 17 court cases was stunned when the NFF sent another lawyer in person of Ugochukwu Njoku who claims to be from the chambers of the Nigerian Football Federation electoral committee chairman, A.U Mustapha to represent them in the court. A scenario which gave Justice Binta Muritala Nayko , no chance to hear the impending case but to adjourn the case till the 6th of February.
Emmanuel Oboh revealed in a chat that the NFF were trying to take over the functions of the NPL claiming that the league board is not an appendage neither is it a subordinate.
"NFF are trying to cause confusion in all forms. They are trying to slow the process down to achieve their aims which would not yield anything for them. I have a letter from the NPL to represent them on this case and this would be proven in court. At the next adjournment we would shift the shaft from the grains. You all know that A.U Mustapha has been working with the NFF in trying to conduct elections with them but why is he interested NPL now? He queried
Oboh who believes there a mole in the NPL, further took a swipe at the Federation alleging that they try to cause chaos when crucial decision doesn’t go their way. He said:"If anything is not going their way they just try to cause confusion. So the court says they cannot hold any election. No rebidding process would be held until this matter has been determined. I have made a preservative order in court now and the court has said we should settle the matter of appearance before the next adjournment. “He said
However gathered from an NPL board member who pleaded anonymity that it was a deliberate act to send an independent lawyer to represent the League board as they believe sacked NPL lawyer Emmanuel Oboh can't represent the interest of the board in court.
